Gravy, Grits, and Graves by Vicki Blair is a thrilling mystery. Trooper Daniel Brooks, local basketball hero, returns to McWhorter and he is given an assignment immediately. He has to investigate the deaths of the Mayor's Tuesday Club members. This is a secret club controlled by the Mayor, Jock. This gives Daniel an opportunity to renew his old ties with Caroline Ledford, the Mayor's daughter. At the same time, he is attracted to Tillie Grant, an FBI agent who is also there to investigate. Daniel finds himself in a love triangle and also finds out that these two women are complicating the investigation because of their involvement in the murders.

It is an intriguing theme which is fast paced and keeps readers glued to the pages. The twists and turns in the plot and the excitement in the story keeps the action moving. The author has blended mystery and romance very well and they go side by side without sounding contrived. The book is engaging and compelling. The love triangle and the role of the two women in enhancing the mystery is another angle of the story which keeps readers hooked on the book.

Small town life, political corruption, romance, and mystery define the story in a nutshell. What more can the reader ask for? It takes you through myriad emotional highs and lows. The title, cover page, and the styling is a bit avant-garde and the author has managed to keep up the mystery angle till the end.
