Author Biography

Mara Valderran is not just an author of young adult and new adult novels. She has dabbled in screenwriting, retired from acting, and drawn some pretty mean stick figures in her time. She is an avid reader and loves all things fantasy. She contributes to the fantasy blog There and Draft Again: A Fellowship of Fantasy Writers.

Her debut novel, HEIRS OF WAR, has been met with great reviews and was featured on Wattpad in 2013, raking in over 600k reads. The series continues with the second book, HEIRS OF WAR, CROWN OF FLAMES to be released in Summer 2014. Her short story "The Austenation" will be included in the Borderlands Anthology and she is looking forward to publishing her young adult dystopian ALTAR OF REALITY with Curiosity Quills Winter 2014.

Mara is more than just a madwoman with a writing box. She loves roller skating and movies, though typically not together. She lives in Las Vegas with her husband and demanding cat. She hopes to one day meet Daniel Jackson from SG1, or at least the actor who played him. When she’s not writing, you can find her reading, playing video games, or counting down the days until DragonCon.

Heirs of War by Mara Valderran is about five teenage girls connected by blood that know nothing of the life that fate has in store for them when they come into their powers. Destined to fulfill a prophecy that only one knows about, the others' lives are turned upside down when they are finally brought home. Four of the girls are raised in a world far different from their home world, but were too young when they left and remember nothing, while the fifth and oldest girl is raised on the run in their home world. Through a twist of fate, the girls are brought home before coming into their powers and before one girl can make it back safely, she is kidnapped by the leader of the group waging war on the leaders of the worlds. The girls raised on Dhara struggle to adapt and come to terms with everything that is going on in their lives.

Heirs of War by Mara Valderran is a fast paced book that is told from the viewpoint of the five girls. Some of the events are experienced by several characters, which gives insight into the event instead of just showing what one character experienced or felt. While slightly confusing in the beginning, Heirs of War is very engaging and hard to put down. Heirs of War is fast paced with action, but also contains a little mystery when facts are revealed about the family and the abilities that the enemy has. Anxiously awaiting the second book of the series!
