Book Review
The setting is Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. Detective Regan Pescoli is rushing to her ex-husbands house. He has taken her children and plans to file for full custody. As she crosses the mountain her tires are skillfully shot out. Regan’s car crashes. She is held captive by the Star Crossed Killer.
A psychopath is on the loose. He abducts women, cares for their injuries, photographs them and leaves them to die. The police think they have the Star-Crossed Killer and are taken completely by surprised when Regan comes up missing. She misses work two days in a row before they seriously consider that she is missing. Nate Santana is Regan’s close friend. He is very concerned about her and convinces Detective Selena Alvarez, her partner to search for her.
Regan is caught in the killer’s cold maze. She has a strong survival instinct and fights to survive. Her plan is to escape the maze and go after the killer.
Eventually the authorities realize the killer is spelling something with the victims’ initials.
Fans will remember Regan from Left To Die. Unlike most of Lisa Jackson’s books, this one starts off slow. When Regan is caught by the killer the action quickly gains pace.
I always enjoy Lisa Jackson’s novels. This one was good but not her best. There s a wide variety of characters in this book. Some had little to nothing to do with the plot. Jackson has a talent with descriptions. I actually felt the cold seeping into my bones as I read about Bitterroot Mountain. My biggest complaint concerning this book is the relationship between Regan and Nate. There seemed to be little true love between them. All in all this is a good thriller.
