In August Fog by A.L. Goulden, Monica is content with her life with her husband, Alex. They have worked hard ever since Alex’s affair years ago. The relationship is a bit predictable, they are set in their routines, and the sex is just mediocre, but she has accepted her life. However, when Quinn moves in next door, her life is thrown into disarray. He awakens her passion for art, and her desires, and reminds her of the life she could have and used to dream about. Both trying to fight their feelings for one another, they soon find themselves in a dangerous, secret relationship that neither can turn away from. Monica must now make the hardest decision she has ever had to make. Filled with steamy sensual scenes, emotional, touching moments, and even some unexpected humor, this book is a must-read.

When I first saw A.L. Goulden’s August Fog, the tagline immediately drew me in; a woman having to choose between her soul mate and the love of her life is a story that I just had to read, and I am so glad I did. This is not just a story about infidelity; it’s so much more than that. It’s a beautiful story about living life, taking chances, making choices, following your heart, and it’s ultimately about love. Goulden has an amazing talent for storytelling and for bringing characters to life. The plot was perfectly paced; the relationship, friendship, and sexual tension between Monica and Quinn were realistic and gradually grew over the course of a month. I was so completely immersed in this book that I stayed up all night until six in the morning because I just had to finish it. After wiping the tears off my face, and in an attempt to get over the devastation of coming to the end of one of my new favorite books, I had to Google this fantastic author to see if she had written anything else. To say that I was ecstatic to discover that this was the first book in a trilogy would be an understatement. I will be counting down the days, hours, and minutes until the next book comes out. A.L. Goulden may have just written my all-time favorite series.
