A Bit of Madness by Chris Michael Johnson is a collection of poems that revolve around a spiritual theme. Based on his personal observations and experiences, the author has put down his feelings and thoughts about God for readers to comprehend. The poems speak about the presence of God everywhere and also the role of Satan in destroying all the beautiful things in the world. Our Lady's Medjugorje Message, October 25, 2008, is the central theme of his collection of poems. The casual tone in his writing makes his writing potent and it sets the pace for the rest of the poems in the book.

'In rest and quiet
words are born,
and so responding
to her call.'

These lines sum up the central theme of the collection. The grand statement made by the poet about God, Satan, and humanity transcends mere observation. All the poems are thought provoking and well crafted, leaving a distinct impression in the minds of readers. The style of writing is minimalist yet simple, sharp and compassionate, evoking a lot of feelings in readers. It will be difficult to pick a personal favorite because I found all the poems beautifully penned and the emotions are so real.

The poems have an effective blend of humanity and spirituality, making them accessible to readers. The skill, originality, and passion with which the verses are penned make it a good collection. I enjoyed the dignity, spirituality, and humanity that leap out of all the poems in this collection.
