Author Biography

Rue graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Journalism. Her intimate knowledge of the Midwest, the inordinate amount of time she spent in its churches’ pews and her unique parentage make her an expert on life after religion. Having moved 17 times by the time she graduated from high school Rue has seen more than her share of the Great Plains. She never stayed in one place long enough to make human friends. Her best friends were all characters from her beloved books; and the love of reading led to a lifelong passion for writing.

Watch out Duluth, here come the sisters in It's Not My Favorite by Rue. Gwenn Hutchinson has her own business. She organizes people and their stuff and rarely has time to organize herself and all her messes. Her sister, Rachel, is known as the best baker in town and is openly gay - only her parents are not in on the open secret. They are holier-than-thou and will not handle this surprise well. Gwenn is suffocating in her personal life; she does not get along with her parents as nothing is good enough for her mom. When Gwenn hears, "It's not my favorite" from her mom, it always means, "You will never measure up." Gwenn meets Daniel Gregory and has this strange feeling he is her brother as she had come across a photo of an older version of Daniel and her mom. Rachel is on the rebound after a bad breakup with her girlfriend, as they were deeply into each other and even bought a loft together. She needs Gwenn to help her through this, but she soon learns Gwenn is not going to be helpful, not with her own problems chasing her.

As each sister ploughs through their demons, they each discover their own self and realize they don't need their parents’ approval for them to be happy and secure. Rue is amazingly accurate in her descriptions of the Duluth, MN area. It was refreshing to read about an area I know well; it connected me to the story on a higher level. There were also some very hilarious scenes that made the book exciting to read. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.
