Book Review
From Jerusalem to Jerusalem follows a Jewish family through WWI and WWII. They learned to survive hunger, torture, loneliness, and fear. Prejudice against their Jewish heritage brought cruelty. The central character is Riva. She worked hard to keep her family alive. They endured starvation, the holocaust, and tragedy. She taught her children to be survivors. The story continues with their lives.
I am sickened every time I read about the abuse the Jewish people have suffered. Louise Prister’s From Jerusalem to Jerusalem brings the cruelty to life. I cried as I read about the children thrown into a well and the people that died from gas. While this is not an easy story to read, it is necessary. No one should ever forget what the Jewish people have suffered. Ms. Prister tells her families story through a narrative style. She does not want her children to suffer, but neither does she want them to forget where they came from.
