Paula's Biography as Written by Jolene
Paula Boyd grew up in a small town in Texas that some would say was not unlike Kickapoo, which was just down the road from a bigger town that might, in some small ways, resemble Redwater Falls. These are coincidences, of course, as all the people, places and events are fictional, as attested by the appropriate disclaimers in the books and her willingness to swear to the same under oath.
And yes, the infamous yellow high school yearbook is out there, although it would be best for all concerned if it weren't. Hopefully having learned something from that fiasco, her subsequent efforts in various editorial positions on the university newspaper and yearbook were reasonably dignified.
Like her fictional counterpart, Paula hid out in the mountains of Colorado for 20 years before ending up back in the South, next door to Texas. Now, any self-respecting Texan knows Texas is not in the South—it's a country unto itself—nevertheless, she still did what she swore she'd never do and moved back.
Her first tall tale, Hot Enough to Kill was featured in Redbook and the University of Texas Press’ Lone Star Sleuths. Dead Man Falls won the 2001 WILLA Literary Award for Best Original Paperback. Turkey Ranch Road Rage ruffled feathers in 2010.
As Paula Renaye, she just won an Indie Excellence Finalist Award for her new title, The Hardline Self Help Handbook. Paula conducts workshops on writing and personal development and has appeared on Book TV.

Dead Man Falls by Paula Boyd is book two in her Jolene Jackson Mystery series and I have to say it’s as hilarious as the first book. Once again Jolene is back in Kickapoo, Texas this time for her mother’s big birthday bash. This is a yearly occasion and always held at the gossip center of Kickapoo: the Dairy Queen. The biggest thing going on in the area this time besides her mother’s birthday is the brand new waterfall they have made. Funny there is a town called Red River Falls and no waterfall. Not only is the falls the main attraction, so is the body Jolene just happens to spot falling down the rocks into the river as they have what would technically be called a ribbon cutting. Seems the minute Jolene hits town bodies start showing up, but this time it’s a blast from the past, her high school years. Someone is out to get rid of some of the classmates and Jolene and old sweetheart Sheriff Jerry Don Parker are also a target. As the bodies pile up all around the falls the race is on to find the killer out of the many suspects.
Once again Paula Body takes the reader on a rollicking hilarious ride through the country side of Texas. As we keep up with the same characters in the first book we have a couple of new ones added. This is a great series!
