"The Cry of Havoc: Part One Life Descending" is an intriguing novel written by John Hennessy. This novel is part one of the "Cry of Havoc" Series. Tom Navo is a man living in a world of turmoil, war, and dark tragedy. Tom is injured at a minimart which is being robbed, and finds himself in an unusual waiting room where a man named Ferrik tells him that he has died. Was Tom really the 207th person to die on that day according to Ferrik? When Tom awakes he is in another realm and finds himself among strange creatures and things that live only in our worst nightmares. Tom meets Shakara, who is a woman conflicted with many of her own secrets. Both are seeking the “Impermeable Suit” which is an ancient armor suit of legend that holds unimaginable power to the person who owns it. Tom and Shakara both set out in search of the suit while hunters, warriors and fierce creatures narrow down their path with plans to destroy them. They must travel through perilous danger and dodge an array of enemies in their journey to discover the truth. Will they find the legendary suit which holds life altering powers and will the suit be able answer the questions from their past that they so desperately desire?

John Hennessy truly writes a masterpiece on paper. This book is complex and intriguing at the same time. It challenged my way of thinking logically and sent me into a whole new universe. The cover of the book is captivating and truly catches the reader’s eye. The chapters flow nicely and are filled with action, excitement and adventure. I found this novel to be very enthralling and I felt accomplished once I had finished the entire book! What is extraordinary is that the readers are able to feel as if they are in the past and in the future in unison, not knowing if it is fantasy or reality. At first, I thought the book would be over my head, but as I got into it and read on further, the plot came together nicely and I was able to comprehend the meaning quite easily. I loved the descriptive words and imagery used in the novel as I was able to feel like I was with Tom on his journey. This novel is well thought out, very creative, and contains all the adventure, creatures, legends, and lands that a person could dream of. From dragons to kings, leprechauns, trolls, gnomes, elves, aliens, creatures and secret maps; this novel has it all. The icing on the cake is the surprise ending that you won’t see coming. This is truly a book that all Science Fiction fanatics will want to pick up and not put down!
