Book Review
Reviewed by Lori M for Readers' Favorite

When authors David and Anita Hill asked a group of students to explain the meaning of Christmas, they got some interesting answers such as, “Doing something fun when it’s snowing outside,” “Coming together as a family,” and “Getting presents and eating a lot of food.” When asked by a student whether or not Santa Claus is real, the author was in a difficult position. Their goal in writing this book, “The Case of: Is Santa Claus Real?” is to provide people with the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas means “Christ with us.” The book starts by presenting the Bible from God creating the Universe through the birth of Christ and Jesus’s gift to the world. The authors explain how the concept of Santa Claus came from the Dutch as a secondary person of honor not to replace the Christ of Christmas, but how an American businessmen saw a way to make money from commercializing Santa Claus to entice people to buy and give gifts at Christmas and why it is a corruption of the real meaning of Christmas. They then provide a list of attributes of Jesus, St. Nicholas, and Santa Claus to demonstrate the differences between them. In closing, the authors explain who the Holy Spirit is and provide a list of ideas out abhow to celebrate the Christ of Christmas.

There are some good illustrations in the book and the purpose of the book is very admirable – to help us remember the true meaning of Christmas, with Christ at the center. Good lesson for kids.
