Do I Know Me? by Phyllis F. McManus is a captivating story. When Sunny Miller finds out her beloved mother has Alzheimer's, she gives up her fancy job in a big city to move back to her country home and help take care of her. Not only does Sunny learn what Alzheimer's is and does, but she also learns about family secrets and a little bit about herself as well.

This was a good book! Do I Know Me? was not just an interesting story, but also an educational one too. I learned what it could be like living with someone who has Alzheimer's. I also learned to look for warning signs. McManus’s story is when Alzheimer's was still a rather unknown disease. The story is also a love story. Not just between a man and a woman, but a love between close friends and family. I loved the character of Sunny. I felt her pain when she realized life would never be the same again for her mother. I did feel she rushed into the relationship rather quickly, but I understand why she did. I wished I had a Beulah in my life. A friendship like that is so rare.

I also admired Sunny's mother for standing up for Beulah all those times. She was a strong woman. The ending of the story made me cry, but I was also left feeling happy. I always have considered myself a Southerner because I was raised in Alabama, but I have never for the life of me heard of putting peanuts in a bottle of Coke! That and the potatoes in the biscuits have made me want to move back to the south and try everything I am missing out on. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and the characters in it. I hope to read more of McManus’s work in the future.
