I enjoyed this western tale very much. The characters were likable and very mysterious. The tale starts when a bum cowboy, Bowman, inquires about a job and the owner of the ranch returns from his wedding. The owner has bought a bride who has been with him three days prior to the wedding. Elizabeth is a plain young woman who seems to let anyone walk all over her.

The trouble starts when her husband, Mr. Tower, after sending her into the house, shoots Bowman. The startled cowboy has no other choice than to shoot back and mortally wounds Tower. Before Tower dies, he tells his foreman an amazing tale of deceit and revenge. Bowman, wounded and bewildered, prepares to ride away; he wants nothing to do with the law.

Finally, after the foreman overpowers Bowman moments later, he brings him to the house to take care of him. The neighborhood is in an uproar when they see the young widow and her husbands` killer under the same roof. They rush to save her from her own follies. The girl, who has been forced to marry an older man, finds herself rich and free of her abusive father and husband. She takes charge of her life and blossoms to become a well loved young woman.

I couldn't put the book down. It drew me in from the beginning and was a pleasure to read.
