Miss Beatrice Forsythe, a young woman of seventeen, vivaciously pushes the limits of what is considered proper during a time when status and appearances mean everything. Strong-willed and outspoken, she thinks she knows what she wants in life and how to go about getting it, but finds, in the face of potential great personal loss, that she is mistaken. Things she holds in high regard and importance suddenly mean nothing and the will of God for her life take on new meaning.

Linore Rose Burkard takes the reader back in time with ease and paints a vivid picture of Miss Forsythe and how she lived. The detailed description of the clothing she wore and the wealth she enjoyed, due to her sister's marriage, in contrast to the poor around them, depicts a time far different than our own. Ironically, even though the culture is very different and some things such as medical practices seem totally barbaric, the way God works in their lives resonates in the same way that He continues to work in our lives today.
