Frequently Asked Questions

If you haven't already, please read our Annual Award Contest page.

Our contest deadline is May 1st. As long as you make your payment either online or postmarked by May 1st you will make it into the contest.

Anyone from anywhere of any age. We accept entries from all over the world from people of all ages. As long as it is your original work written in English, is not a short story or erotica, and falls into one of our 70+ categories then we invite you to enter our contest.

No. We accept books published from any year. Your book does not need to be published. We accept manuscripts, published and unpublished books, eBooks, audio books, comic books and poetry books that fall into one of our 70+ genre categories.

Simply complete the form on our Annual Award Contest page by the contest deadline of May 1st.

No. Our entry form allows you to upload your book in all common formats. We encourage you to upload your book instead of mailing a hard copy for faster distribution to our reviewers and judges.

However, you are also welcome to mail in your book. You will need to mail in one copy for EACH category you enter. If you enter your book in 4 categories then you will need to mail us 4 copies of your book. This is because a different judge will evaluate your book for each category you enter.

If you mail your book then we will donate it to one of our four partner charities. We send children's and young adult books to St. Jude Children's Hospital and to schools through the Kids In Need Foundation. Adult books are provided to needy seniors through Meals on Wheels and to adults learning to read with the help of the Adult Literacy League.

The contest costs $89 to enter one book in one category. You can enter your book in up to 3 more categories, each of which costs a discounted $65. So if you wanted to enter your book into 2 categories, it would cost you $89 for your first category then $65 for your second category for a total of $154.

All book contests of note charge a fee commensurate with their size and prizes. It is simply impossible to hold an award contest of this size with so many benefits to the author without charging an entrance fee.

Having prominent people read and evaluate hundreds of entries is expensive. Not to mention the roll of 500 high quality stickers, an awards banquet, physical award medals, a booth at the Miami Book Festival International, and dozens of other miscellaneous expenses.

All our Author Services are lower than most if not all of our competitors and our Express Review is a fraction of the cost of other companies. Our Award Contest is no different, we charge as little as we can because we are in the business of helping authors and we want to make all our programs available to as many authors as possible.

Please refer to our Annual Award Contest page for full details on prizes.

Yes, we can accommodate any changes you want. Just open a support ticket and let us know what you need done and we will make it happen for you. You can add, remove or change categories, sometimes even after the contest has already started.

If you haven't already, please read our Book Reviews page.

We have created an Author's Area where you can update your biography, picture and all the links on your review page. When we complete your review we email you a Review Notice which has your Author's Area login information in it.

If you did not receive this email, check your SPAM folder. To have it resent to you, simply click the "Author Login - Resend Login Information" link at the top of your review page above the Amazon button.

It generally takes about 3 months to have your free review completed and posted on our site. Not all books will receive a review. We do not assign books to our reviewers, we allow them to pick the ones that sound interesting to them. This ensures your book is read and reviewed by someone interested in it.

Even though we have nearly 100 reviewers, we simply get too many review requests each month to keep up with demand. We do offer an Express Review that guarantees your book will be reviewed in 2 weeks.

No, they are the same. Our reviewers simply do the Express Reviews first. Our reviewers normally have to finish their current books before picking new ones, which is why books can sit for a while waiting for a reviewer to have the time to review them.

However, reviewers are allowed to pick Express Reviews even if they have other books they are currently reviewing to ensure the Express is completed within 2 weeks.

Yes. All of our review features are completely free, as are our reviews. We process hundreds of free reviews each month, all of which get all of the amazing free features we offer.

We also add new features regularly, just as quickly as we can think of them. If you have any suggestions of something that would benefit authors to have on their review page, please let us know. If we use it, we will give you a FREE entry into our annual contest!

If you are having trouble with the links on your website, make sure that you are entering the full URL. For example: don't enter "www.yoursite.com", enter "http://www.yoursite.com". You need that "http://" for all of your links.

If you aren't sure what your Facebook and Twitter links are, just visit the respective pages and copy the link from the address bar in your browser. Check the examples above the boxes where you enter them in your Author's Area for working samples.

If your Amazon link does not work, please fill out a support request and we will fix it for you immediately.

Sure. We review manuscripts and unpublished books as long as they are complete and edited. When your review is complete we will email it to you along with other information. However, we cannot post it on our site until it is available for sale.

There is no rush, whenever you get your book on Amazon just let us know and we will post your review on our site, Barnes & Noble, Google Books and Facebook. Your book must listed on Barnes & Noble for us to be able to post our review. You can also post your review on your Amazon page.

Yes. You can update the links on your review whenever and as often as you like from your Author's Area.

Unfortunately you can't. We just don't have the man power to allow authors to check up on their reviews. It takes time away from our staff and reviewers and slows the process down, which nobody wants.

However, we do send you an email as soon as your book is complete, and if it takes longer than 90 days to be picked by a reviewer, we will also send you an email to let you know.

Open a support ticket and let us know what category you want it moved to and we will take care of it for you.

If you haven't already, please read our E-Query Service page.

Absolutely. We get your query read by agents and publishers. If it sounds interesting to them they will ask for more information, it's that simple. We make sure your query is properly formatted and as compelling as possible. We also help you create the other documents agents and publishers ask for. The rest is up to the subject and quality of your book.

We have helped authors get agents, publishers and even a movie deal! The truth is it works, we just can't guarantee it will work for everyone.

We provide you a list of all the agents and publishers we send your query to. They are all over the world and represent varying genres. We send your E-Query to all our agents and publishes, over 1,000 of them. Some will not be interested in your genre, some will not be interested in your story and others will just be too busy.

But those are not the ones we are interested in. We are interested in the ones who are interested in you. And when you send to so many of them, we usually get at least a dozen people interested in the work. Some authors can get dozens of requests for more information, while others may only get a handful.

Because they haven't even seen your writing yet, this should not be taken as a reflection of your work, but instead of your book's topic. Some books are just more marketable than others.

No, we cannot write your query. Only you know enough about your story to write your query and synopsis. But we show you how, and guide you every step of the way. We review each part of your query and tell you how to improve it until it's just right.

If you haven't already, please read our Reviewer Application page.

Our reviewers are not professional editors and we do not require any specific degrees. They are avid readers and are exactly the kind of people you will be selling your books to.

We require that our reviewers have a love of reading, an honest desire to help authors, are able to meet deadlines, and have good writing skills. These qualifications represent a reader who enjoys reading books and has the ability to give an honest, fair and insightful review in a timely manner.

No, our Reviewers are volunteers and review for us out of a joy of reading and a desire to help others.

We do try and thank our reviewers by holding an annual giveaway where our Reviewers draw for over $1,000 in Barnes & Noble gift certificates.

No, our Reviewers choose the books they want to read. We have created an online Reviewer's Area where our Reviewers can login to see all of the books available for review. Each has a synopsis, comments, even an Amazon link to read more about the book, and the formats available in which to read the book.

We do this to ensure that books are read and reviewed by Reviewers that are interested in the topic. As a result, many books are not reviewed. But we feel this is better than providing a bad review from a Reviewer that was never interested in the book in the first place.

We ask our authors to provide a compelling synopsis when they submit their books for review. Our Reviewers are just like buyers in a bookstore. They look at a book, read the blurb and decide whether they want to read it. We designed our system to mimic that process.

Authors whose books are not chosen in 90 days are invited to resubmit their book with a more compelling synopsis. This helps the author fine tune their blurb to be more attractive to potential readers.

As an affiliate, you can help other authors by telling them about our site and earn money if they enter our Annual Award Contest.

If you put a Readers Favorite affiliate link on your website, Facebook or Twitter page, then when other authors click that link they will be taken to our site and recorded by our system as coming from you. So if they purchase an entry into our Annual Award Contest you will earn a commission!

This helps you while you help others. Our affiliate program is free and simple to join. So if you are planning on putting any information about Readers Favorite on your site (maybe you won an award or just want to tell others about your review) you might as well earn money from the people who visit us from your link.
