Book Review
April Simonson found it difficult to trust men. She was working on the Sultan when the ship exploded. The death toll was startling. The setting is the Civil War, 1865, Memphis. April’s face was disfigured. That did not matter to Jerek, when he struggled to save her from the muddy waters of the Mississippi River. Jerek has secrets that he is not ready for April to know. Can she trust him, is he different from other men that hurt her?
Lauri Robinson takes an actual event and uses it not only for the backdrop of this story but also as a major part in the story with a unique twist. Fans of romantica will enjoy An April to Remember.

April hated all men, with good reason. They were mean and sinful. She had proof every time she looked in the mirror at her disfigured face. She feels this way until she meets Jerek Brinkley on the Sultana in 1865. Jerek fell for the northern vixen with her card tricks on the Mississippi River.
When the Sultana explodes April is terrified she will never see her handsome man again or live another day. Jerek does everything he can to save the woman who has won his heart. But once in Memphis he's afraid April will learn things about him he isn't ready to share just yet.
I remember the first time I watched Titanic. I fell in love with Jack Dawson and wanted to be Kate. It was a match made in heaven and for once it was the upper class woman falling for the lower class man. But the ending of the story was devastating. Why couldn't it have a happily ever after? If you felt like I did than you will love this story, An April to Remember. It's based on a true story, but this one has a happy ending. The guy gets the girl and they live happily ever after. Lauri Robinson has taken something that has happened in the past and added a beautiful twist to it. It makes you wonder if something like this could have actually happened that dreadful night in 1865. This story will touch your heart and make you weep with gratification that we have authors such as Robinson. It's one of the better books I have read from The Wild Rose Press Historical American Romance series. This was a wonderful read and I wish it could go on forever. It's one of those books you HAVE to know more about their lives. I think it's a keeper for any bookshelf!
