Book Review "False Mermaid" is book 3 in the Nora Gavin Mysteries. Even though it can be read as a stand-alone book, I suggest you read the first two in the series," Haunted Ground" and "Lake of Sorrows" before this one. The three books, combined, have a stronger impact. Erin Hart has successfully combined mystery and suspense with Irish mythology and folk lore.
Nora Gavin is returning to the United States with determination to prove that her ex brother-in-law, Peter Hallett, killed her sister, Triona. With the help of Frank Cordova, one of the original police investigators on the case, she is hoping to crack this case and bring her sister`s killer to justice. Another body is found murdered at about the same time as her sister and in the same manner. So it’s time to re-open the case. As Frank and Nora start digging deeper, a mystery comes to light that has more twists and turns than they expected. Nora learns that Peter is going to marry his best friend`s sister. They will honeymoon in Ireland, at the same place where he took her sister. She fears for the life of the woman. Time is short; she must prove that Peter murdered her sister before he remarries.
I enjoyed this book. It took me a bit to connect with the Irish folklore and the Selkies, but it all tied together nicely at the end. Mystery readers will enjoy this book.
