Author Biography Blaine C. Readler is an electronics engineer, inventor, and writer (although, that’s rather redundant considering the context). He lives in San Diego, from where he ventures forth in spring and autumn when the rest of the country is habitable. Book Review Blaine C. Readler’s stories have been compared to Isaac Asimov. The Worth Of Smart is a collection of Readler’s short stories. The first story, The Truth About Robots, introduces readers to Robot-Man, a man capable of creating artificial life that cleans, works at security and numerous other household duty. Each of the robots has a distinct voice. Robot-Man has used the voices of those he loves. While the robots in the story, especially the one in the safe, are fascinating, the emotions behind the story are the focus. Taylor and his friend enter the home managing to bypass security. Taylor Is determined to retrieve his mother’s ring. His parents divorced when it was discovered his father was having an affair. When the two young men open the safe they are amazed at what they find inside.
The Chosen Ones shares the tale of Cameron, Byron and some aliens looking for a pilot. The aliens’ choice may surprise some. My favorite story had to do with Moses and the Israelites crossing the Red Sea. Other stories include, dragon flies, journalists, and various unexpected other things. Ummmm watch out for the dragon flies.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began reading this book. The cover is rather odd and not the most appealing. There is a bare light bulb, many wires, two forks and I’m not sure what else. It is obviously someone doing an experiment. The cover is perfect for the text! The cover hints perfectly at what lies inside awaiting the curious reader.
Blaine C. Readler is very talented. He combines sci-fi, humor, and suspense to create a one of a kind read. I love it. This book is well written and developed. Each short story is filled with great surprises. |
