Deception by Karen Lewis is a short, suspenseful mystery. When nineteen-year-old Megan Keyes goes missing from the Olympic games in Vancouver, her mother shows up and turns in a missing person report. When Detective Slater goes over the report with the mother, he has this strange feeling that Megan is no longer around. When his partner Brad starts checking the Highway of Tears, he disappears also, only to wash ashore a week later. Now, not only does he have a young lady missing, Slater also has the death of his partner to try and solve. He also has a chief who is onto his case all the time to drop the investigations and get to the other cases at hand. When clues start matching up, Detective Slater takes a trip to Olympia and discovers things that change the whole outcome of the situation.
This is a very fast read, but I felt a little left out in parts, especially because with just a couple of clues, the case is solved. I do know it is hard to try and put a full novel into a few pages, but I feel like there should have been a little but more added to the story, a little more detail of how the detective was clued into the crime committed. I pretty well had it figured out in a way after the first few pages, but it was still interesting to see how the end played out. All in all the author had a way of making one use his mind as he read.
