The man who stood by and watched her being tortured for months is the last person Lana ever wants to see again, much less entrust her life to, but she is not given a choice when she becomes a target once again and is forced to accept Caleb Stone as part of her world once more. Caleb goes into his assignment knowing Lana Hancock has to hate him since he could not break cover to protect her before, much less rescue her, but he has his orders and a need to atone. Besides, he is the best man for the job. However, the Swarm, the terrorists who are now after her, is an even more dangerous enemy when wounded. Caleb's resources will be pushed to their limits as he fights to keep safe the woman he loves and who, amazingly, has been able to get past what he was to return the feeling.
*** From the outset, the action is virtually nonstop. Readers are taken on a mental roller coaster ride of thrills liberally mixed with chills as they wind their way through emotion-charged scenes and heart pounding action. There is nothing sweet about this romance, it's a book both men and women can share, with enough passion and adventure to sate both their appetites. ***

This book is good from the start to the end. I was hoping it would end.

The book has been outlined before and in more detail, but in a nutshell the heroine and hero meet when he is undercover with a terroist group and she is one of their victims. She gets the living **** beat out of her and he has to standby and watch it happen (so as not to blow his cover). He hates himself for not being able to save her then and later when he gets the chance to protect her he does all he can to put himself between her and danger. The biggest obstacle for him to overcome was not the bad guys but was the heroine who was still trying to deal with the horror of what happened to her and struggle with the feelings he evoked.
I LOVED this hero. He was big and strong and confident in everything but his feelings for the heroine and later, her feelings about him. He was so YUMMY! I've seen hunky fireman and policeman get all soft and vulnerable when they do charitable work with kids so I believed the special forces friends helping out at the fundraiser.
This book was a fast read, well written and a pleasure to spend the day with. It definitely goes on my keeper shelf!

I enjoyed everything about this book. Lana and Caleb had great undeniable chemistry. I'm a sucker for romances where the hero protects his damsel in distress and where the damsel in distress doesn't like to show that she is in any distress, but then ends up realizing that she needs the hero to help her through. Lots of good twists and turns. Great book....I also loved 'No Regrets' by Shannon K Butcher.

Was eager to read this second offering by newcomer Shannon Butcher, and I wasn't disappointed. I don't think it was quite as tightly written as the first one, but overall it is still a very good read. This book, too, deals with confronting and overcoming a heartbreaking past, times two. Female lead character Lana is a former hostage who physically survived the torture she underwent but still bears numerous psychological scars. Enter Delta Force operative, Caleb, the very man undercover in the group that captured Lana who stood by and watched, helplessly, as she was brutalized almost to death. Eighteen months later, he's back in her life, to save her again from the same evil group, The Swarm, we were introduced to in the first book. I had a few issues with this second offering in the series. First, the lunatic after Lana is a little too one-dimensional and implausible at times. She did and said a few things that had me scratching my head because it wasn't quite credible. The romantic and dramatic tension comes from Lana trying to resist Caleb's wiles, mistakenly believing that if she resists having feelings for Caleb, she can keep him safe from harm. Okay, considering this is a highly trained soldier in an elite military group, it's not quite believable. (Plus, it's an angle used too often in books of this genre.) I think the author could have found a better vehicle to sustain the tension between the two main characters. Overall, though, with the exception of a few wobbles, it's a good story. And I can't wait to read Grant's story in the next book.

I loved this book. I really liked the carry-over of the 'op gone bad' for Caleb that was first described in No Regrets (another winner by this author), as well as the return of Grant Kent. Shannon Butcher has made three great reads with this series.

My review is for the reader that wants something a bit edgier than a simple love story with a bit of violence. I thought I was going to get a more gottcha storyline. So the other reviews are correct with their thoughts of the story.
For me, the story was a woman that was tortured 18 months ago and was constantly warring with herself not to tell anyone about who was involved in the torture. She had friends murdered next to her and yet she kept a secret who the bad guys were. She put her family in danger, her lover, friends and still held back information that was needed to get the bad guys. I got very tired of the author writing over and over, "I have to keep my family safe and the kids I work with." So boring. I rolled my eyes how many times that line was used.
I was bored with her wanting to save Calab by lying to him that she doesn't love him. She wanted to keep him safe. Then she should tell the truth and let the good guys take care of the bad guys.
I did like Caleb and his buddies. I liked how he wasn't always so sure how to handle his love situation. Kent was a good character for Caleb to have around.
I didn't like the alpha guys getting together to put on a carnival fund-raiser. It was suppose to show the softer side of the guys it just didn't fit in the story.
I think another editing cycle could have remedied the dumb-line fillers and knocked the story up a notch.
