"Fruit of My Labor" is a book to enjoy at any level. It is actually a small study of various types of poetry. The author Joe Frey teaches with his broad array of examples such as Haiku, Caligram, Alliteration, and tongue twisters and limericks. This could be a teacher's dream as the works involved are astounding. The words move around in poetic artistry as they reminisce over experiences in one’s life. I was eager to read more as it is dedicated writing heartfelt writing.

This book has short pieces ideal for memorizing. I especially loved 'The Last Mile' as the writing is very cleverly shaped into a foot. My son is a marathon runner and it depicted exactly what a runner goes through. The poems alluding to fruits stunned my imagination. This book also inspires people who love poetry in such a way that they can write about every subject that touches their hearts. I only wish my children were young again so that we could sit together at bedtime to read. "Fruit of My Labor" would be one of those fun books.
