Once Upon a Fairy Tail by Greg McGoon tells the incredible story of Oliver the dog. Oliver found The Big Book of Fairy Tales on a bookshelf at home. After knocking it down by mistake, he decided the book was a plaything. Oliver played with the book until the pages swished and swirled around him, sweeping him up into a forest where he met Red Riding Hood, a wolf, a witch, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, a princess, a prince, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast. Oliver had been chasing the pages of the book and disrupting all the stories along the way, changing parts of the fairytales forever. On his desperate quest to return home to his daddy, Oliver made many new friends and enjoyed a fantastical adventure that he will never forget.
Author Greg McGoon has penned the most delightful story in his book Once Upon a Fairy Tail. The enchanting character of Oliver the dog is much like a young boy with an enquiring mind and limitless energy. I enjoyed the way Greg brings all the old characters together in one book, while Oliver inadvertently changes the traditional stories as he bounds from Red Riding Hood all the way through to Beauty and the Beast. Greg is a fantastic author, his book is exceptional, and the story is most unusual. The scenes and locations are all well described, enhanced by beautiful illustrations. All-round, an enjoyable book highly recommended for children of all ages, an ideal gift for the Easter long weekend.
