The Ill-Fitting Skin by Shannon Robinson is a collection of twelve short stories featuring women navigating extraordinary situations. A mother struggles to control the wild tendencies of her son, a lycanthrope, only to realize they have much in common. A woman gains notoriety when she starts giving birth to a bunch of rabbits and soon finds herself at the mercy of society, seeking to control every aspect of her life. While working at a used clothing store, a young woman comes across clothes from her own childhood, bringing out a traumatic past buried all these years. A zombie enthusiast begins an affair with a man already in a relationship and struggles to come to terms with it. A past relationship with a man suffering from a peculiar condition haunts a woman years down the line.

The Ill-Fitting Skin is an eclectic collection of short stories exploring the various facets of womanhood through the lens of surrealism and magical realism. This book is a must-read for short story lovers who enjoy fiction featuring multi-faceted women as the main protagonists. Shannon Robinson gifts readers an enthralling collection of tales to delve into, each more shocking, twisted, and unpredictable than the last. While you're reading, you can't help but wonder what's coming next. Every story is unique and brings something of its own to the narrative. Robinson masterfully incorporates some relevant social issues into these tales while keeping them entertaining. I can't reiterate enough how much I enjoyed this book. If you love short stories that take you by surprise, this is what you're looking for!
