Let's go to the beach! Bosley is a bear in a cave with his purple hat (with holes cut out to allow for his furry ears) and with his red knapsack (which has lots of room for toys). Bosley and the reader learn new things as they go on an adventure to the seashore with his mother in the background. "Bosley Goes to the Beach," written by Tim Johnson and illustrated by Ozzy Esha, is a cute way for kids to cuddle up to new words and to notice how those words appear in both English and Spanish. The child who reads this with his mom, dad or babysitter, will have simple words and numbers reinforced through a labeled picture. There is a moral to the story but I won't spoil it for you. There is a talking fish, bird and crab who Bosley finds to discuss how to build a sandcastle and how to appreciate who he is.

There is a nice, family-oriented dedication from the author. He writes the action from the child's perspective, with Bosley exploring the world for the first time outside of his cave. The translucent and color-saturated illustrations go with the text as a hand goes into a glove. Bosley's mom is a safe, reassuring presence in the cave and at the seashore. But the central focus is squarely on Bosely's furry shoulders. The pages where English and Spanish text appear side by side are a little smudged, but it is readable. The plot goes from Bosley waking up in the cave to his bedtime there. The end of the story with his bedtime is a nice idea for little ones to be urged to feel tired and to dream a happy dream.
