“Dimples Dogood” by Ernestine Dail is an inspiring story for young readers. It demonstrates how a person does the good works with childlike simplicity. Dimples is a cheerful young girl with three friends: Stretch, Sunshine and Victory. The four of them live in the town of Son Rise. Throughout the story the three of them find solutions to the problems that come up for the people who live in the town. They help a homeless man find work and get a home. They help a shut in to restore her health and get back on her feet. They help a widow to keep from losing her home. They also help an orphan, Ophelia, who is about their age and their group of friends becomes five, while Dimples gains a new sister. Dimples and her friends are always cheerful, ready to help and looking for solutions.

This is a well-written story, with simple concepts which are easy to follow and understand. The names of the characters and the name of the town are striking. Ernestine Dail has added a little bit of lighthearted zest to “Dimples Dogood”. It is a smooth-flowing, easy read which will make a young reader smile as they see what happens when people decide to help others. This is a great set of object lessons that can be used to teach young people about works of kindness and the results that come from it. It is a great addition to a young reader’s library. This book is highly recommended for teaching the principles of kindness and generosity to young people.

Good chapter book for young readers
This book tells a good story that is both interesting and descriptive. It also encourages children to do what is right and serve others. The book is the perfect length for elementary readers, especially for those just transitioning into chapter books.

Great lesson for children. Funny and educational. Gives young ones a foundation upon which they learn how to love. An easy read for adults and their children. Should be read together.
