Author Biography

In a previous life, Lori worked as a graphic designer for fourteen years for the power company, occasionally venturing into nuclear power plants for her job (yes, nuclear plants need graphic designers, too). In her current existence, she weaves tales of the past, the present, and some places only magic can take you.

Lori lives in Virginia with her engineering geek/hero husband, two kids who test her sanity on a daily basis, a dog named Hokie (named after the Virginia Tech Hokies, of course), and various other critters of the furred and finned variety.

Lori Dillon's Fire of the Dragon has a unique flavor that distinguishes it from the masses of time-traveling romances available on the market today. Plucky and flawed heroine -- check. Gorgeous, chivalrous male in need -- check. Diabolical foe -- check. Engaging sidekicks -- check. A near insurmountable quest -- check. Enormous fire-breathing dragons -- big check. The author manages to infuse the traditional elements of a good yarn with her special twist to give readers a rollicking good time. Magic and fate throw modern-day Jill back 800 years in time to meet Baelin, a curse-stricken knight who needs the aid of a virgin courageous enough to face the titular dragon.

The story is fast-paced and engaging, with the heroine spending just a few pages in her time before being catapulted back into a world populated by dragons. Nearly everything happens for a reason and pieces of the puzzle fit into place before the story wraps up in a very warm and satisfying manner.

In the face of all she's been through in such a short period of time, my one main quibble is Jill is unusually level-headed. Any normal person would have at least fainted or have had a temporary breakdown. It seems she took everything in stride too easily, although the presence of Baelin at her side would have had a very reassuring effect. Other than that, it would have been nice to learn the identity of the mysterious person who led her to Baelin.
