Names are important. They give you an identity. A name can make life difficult.

Picking a name isn’t easy. My husband and I searched for just the right names for our three children. The first pregnancy we easily picked a girl’s name, but could not settle on a boy’s name. We had a girl and she was named after each of us. The second pregnancy found us expecting twins. That meant picking 2 girl names and 2 boys and a girl and boy name. The boy name came easily. We never could settle on girl names. They were both boys. Their middle names are after their grandfathers. I picked a first name from the Bible and my husband picked a first name because of a TV show.

What you name your baby is very important. It labels that child and he/she is stuck with it the rest of his or her life. We’ve all heard the horrors of being named Rose Bush, Shiteetia (yes that is really a woman’s first name). Look at the initials carefully when choosing and name such as: Pam Ianna Gibbon (P.I.G.).

Celebrities have started a trend of unusual names. Many are "old" names, some are from classic literature and some…well I’m not sure where they came up with them. For example, Apple, Rumor and Sailor are unusual names.

A Is for Atticus has suggestion for your baby’s name. They have searched some of the classics for names that we rarely hear. The names are defined and the origin is given. This is not your everyday book of names. This would make a great baby gift.

I'm having my first child in a few weeks, and though I've perused other baby name books, _A is for Atticus_ is the ONLY book I keep coming back to. Craker's whit makes this an enjoyable read - I love her sassy style and opinions on the names, rather than just listing their meaning and moving on. The names suggested range from classic to edgy to silly - and what's a good book without all of those things? If you love books, then you'll love this baby name book - not just for the name suggestions, but it's also a great read! I've already passed it on to other friends who are having babies.

I purchased this as a shower gift and it was quite a conversation piece. Everyone was interested in where specific names were derived in popular novels, (and then some subsequent movies). I would purchase again for the 'next' shower!

How refreshing to have new options for baby names! This should be the first book expecting parents get!
