Author Biography

CLAUDIA BREVIS is an author, songwriter, playwright, genealogist and New Yorker living with her husband, Skip Brevis, on Manhattan’s upper east side.

Claudia’s music and lyrics have been featured on stage, television, film and recordings.

She vocal-arranged and composed original music for the off-Broadway hit Beehive, the 60′s Musical, and she and her husband co-wrote the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival hit, Winner Take All (A Rock Opera).

Other works include Norwegian Cruise Line’s Showdown, an interactive American Idol spoof now in its sixth year on the high seas.

When she isn’t writing music or working on her next novel, Claudia can be found exploring NYC, researching genealogy, cooking, or, most often, just hanging with her family!

The post-apocalyptic A GAZILLION LITTLE BITS is Claudia’s debut novel.

A Gazillion Little Bits by Claudia Brevis is a post-apocalyptic tale where people live in the ruins of Manhattan without technology or government. After the catastrophe that destroyed civilization in September, 2078, people began to start anew, living their lives in the once thriving modern city. Life is much harsher, but systematic tasks and roles work well enough to ensure the survival of society. The year is now 2256. The people have separated into several different groups, such as the Tunnelers or the Disconnects. Then there is the Touched Ones, a group of people who see and hear the ‘whispers’ or visions of the past. The ‘whispers’ are not something that the people really understand until Janelle Duyvil, a Runner or a dispatch, witnesses a stranger being attacked by a weird, dark man-like creature. Perhaps the stranger has the answers that the people seek.

I found A Gazillion Little Bits gritty with a convincing post-apocalyptic world. The world-building, the distinctive terms for certain roles, people and places, as well as the intonation of the dialogue are unique, adding depth to its plot and making the story much more intriguing as a whole. The characters are well-developed as they have their own chapters. That being said, I had to focus hard as there are many lead characters, followed by changeable perspectives and story arcs. Together with the unique dialogue, the pace of the story seemed slow. Overall, this may not be a book for everybody, but Claudia Brevis undeniably has an excellent concept for the dystopian theme. I’m interested to find out what she will write next.

A Gazillion Little Bits is an intelligent book that comments on how the world could be post-apocalypse. I recommend this book who want to bite into a story that is rewarding on multiple levels and not your run of the mill fantasy books.
