Rebecca takes refuge from her abusive lover at Cole Creek Cabin. She spends the solitary time evaluating where her life went wrong. She was happily married to David; they had a daughter they both deeply loved when tragedy struck. She blamed herself, and then she blamed David. The marriage ended. When she met Jason he swept her off of her feet. He was not the loving man he appeared to be. Slowly he took control of her life. He isolated her from those she loved. He controlled what she wore and where she went. The slightest infraction brought physical punishment.

When she and David were married they often went to Cole Creek Cabin. It was the one place she thought she might be safe. However, Jason was on her trail and he was packing a gun.

Rebecca’s daughter Toni sensed that her mother was in trouble. She and her grandmother Irene head to the cabin suspecting that Rebecca would be there. When David realizes where they are going he grabs his gun determined to protect his daughter and mother. He realizes he has never stopped loving Rebecca.

Who will survive the encounter at Cole Creek?

Cole Creek is sure to be a best seller. It is a book with great depth. It is not a quick read although I read it in one sitting. I stayed up all night and read Julie Anne Morley’s fascinating tale. The plot is intricate. The past is woven in with the present.

The plot is believable. The characters come to life on the pages. I cared about the characters except Jason. It was easy to dislike him. He brought out a strong emotion in this reader. Rebecca and David are both flawed characters. That is what makes them so believable. They have made mistakes and realize they had something special and let it go. Toni is wise above her years. I found Irene to be my favorite character in this book. She is endearing, strong yet sensitive. The relationship between Rebecca and Irene reminded me of the one I had with my mother in law.

The cover of this book depicts a creek with flowing water and a rocky shore. It is perfect for hinting at what lies inside. The plot has a touch of mysticism to it that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. It is very easy to recommend this book to fans of suspense.
