Prayer Walk by Janet Holm McHenry is the story of how the author, who at one time suffered from depression, had problems with her weight and a prayer life that was almost nonexistent. That’s when she began her prayer walk. Getting up at 5:30 am to walk for an hour takes determination- determination to face the elements and wild animals or dogs that roam, and determination is one thing the author had. She is a wife, a mother, and a full time teacher, but once she started walking, she found it took up no more of her time. On her prayer walks she not only prayed for her family and their needs, but also for the daycare in her community, her church, schools and other families, and in doing so changed her own life.

The author includes a lot of information in this book as well, such as the principles of walking, the proper shoes, clothing and the health benefits of walking. I enjoyed the book, and at the beginning, there were things I could relate to in my own life. I feel like the study guide, resources on walking, and a Thirty Day Prayer Walk Challenge in the back of the book will encourage the reader to begin her own prayer walk. For a new Christian, I feel like this book will be ideal in helping her learn about praying and getting in shape. There are great resources in the book for beginners and great information for those who have been a Christian for a long time.
