Malcolm King is a successful surgeon living with his wife Amy, daughter Mimi and old dog Daisy in a historic old home in Savanah, Georgia, that they have restored. Then Malcolm's life begins to fall apart when another car crashes into his at the airport as he returns from a medical conference in Miami. Then the neighbor's barking bassett hound is found with his intestines carved out, a complaining patient is found brutally murdered with Malcolm's doctor card nearby, one of Malcolm's former office workers who filed sexual harassment charges against him is found dead, vivisectioned, and Malcolm's longtime good friend, Ben, a policeman, is shot and lies near death. Who is the suspect in all this? Malcolm. He is questioned and pointed to as guilty by the tough, relentless cop, Sam Baker. Then the tall thin man whom Malcolm has seen out of the corner of his eye grabs Malcolm from behind and tells him that "Name's Billy Littlebear. And right now, I'm your best friend in the whole damn world"(page 81).What on earth is going on in Dr. Malcolm King's life?

"The Shadow Man" is a brilliant thriller with suspense that builds and builds to the story's end as Malcolm is finally vindicated and the real "bad guy" is caught. Malcolm, Amy, Mimi, news reporter Tina Baker, Sam Baker, her former husband, and especially Billy Littlebear who is on a mission to bring a psychopathic kiler to justice, are totally convincing, realistic characters. The plot line is good with exciting twists and turns. As Billy and Malcolm begin to seek out the true killer and the persona he has adapted over the years, the readers will find themselves absorbed in the story till the end. "The Shadow Man" should be on reading lists everywhere.Highly recommended!
