The latest 'Southern Mysteries' book from Peggy Webb is called "Elvis and the Blue Christmas Corpse". Not having read the previous stories, I was somewhat at a disadvantage as far as the characters go but once I caught on, I found this to be an entertaining and funny book. It is set in small town Moorville, Mississippi, and it is Christmastime. Callie Valentine Jones and her cousin Lovie are called upon by Uncle Charlie to help with the annual charity drive at the local mall. Charlie is to play Santa as the usual Santa is unavailable. As luck would have it, Lovie's boyfriend, who is playing Rudolph, and Uncle Charlie receive an electrical jolt right in front of the children lined up to greet them. Rudolph meets his demise but Uncle Charley survives and hopes to join in the hunt for the killer. There are multiple suspects and precious few clues.

The main characters in this book are delightful and readers will appreciate Webb's southern humor as well as her down-home wisdom. I did find parts of the dog Elvis's dialogue annoying and distracting and it seemed to come at the expense of the development of important clues which might have assisted the reader in moving toward a conclusion about the murder. The book does tend to focus on the romantic relationships as well but this is enjoyable. For the most part, this is an easy read and one which will brighten the day of most readers. Although Callie is a wonderful character, Lovie gets my vote hands down!
