Pietro Brwna was raised by his grandparents until someone murdered them. He was only 14 years old. The Locanos, allowed him to become of their family, in more than one way. Their family was part of the mob. Pietro wants revenge. He shows a lot of talent in that area and David Locano takes him under his wing and turns him into a hit man.

Eventually Pietro turns state evidence and enters the witness protection program. He changes his name and becomes a doctor. While he’s working at a hospital in Manhattan a mobster is admitted. He recognizes Peter and threatens him. Peter has a choice run or take a stand.

Josh Bazell is a name to reckon with. This is one of the best books I’ve listened to in years. It wasn’t easy to listen to. The book takes off like a grey hound leading the pack, fast paced, a full run never stumbling. The language is rough. The author seems to know a lot about medicine. The descriptions are graphic. One scene in particular stands out. I could see it in my mind’s eye, unfolding before me. Peter was locked in the freezer where they store the blood. He needs a weapon, a knife. Nothing is usable except his own bone. I barely made it through that scene. Then there was the scene with the sharks. Well I’m not going to spoil it for you. Read or listen to the book. I will be shocked if this book does not make the best seller list.
