K.C. and Kayla, a dynamic sibling duo with a penchant for science, have returned in K.C. & Kayla's Science Corner: The Life Cycle of an Apple. In this short educational children's picture book, K.C. teaches his family about how an apple tree grows from the tiny seeds in an apple. Readers will explore the life cycle of an apple, as well as connect with two relatable siblings and a perplexed mother figure (which is pretty accurate). There are no big twists in the story line, and there is no grand adventure. It's short, sweet, and to the point in teaching everyday science to a younger audience. Carol Basdeo doesn't throw in unnecessary flair; she does what she does best which is to educate.

Kids' books are getting more and more in-depth, dramatic, and lengthy. And, honestly, most kids don't care. So I can appreciate the simplicity of K.C. & Kayla's Science Corner: The Life Cycle of an Apple. All the information is packed in there. The attention span of a child is short, especially when it comes to non-fiction topics, so this book will do the trick. The artwork is nicely done, very clean. And both boys and girls will have a character to connect to which is important these days. Overall, this is a well-done piece that I think would be best when bought with the whole collection of Basdeo's Science Corner books. I think eager youngsters who enjoy reading and learning will gobble them right up.
