The Mill by Ron Stelle is a supernatural tale set in 1936, Huckster, Illinois. Marty was a mill hand at the Faversham mill, caught by the owner cavorting with his daughter. Fired, with no lady friend, Marty decides it's time to leave town, but he thought he’d leave the mill owner a gift on his way out. Setting a fire in the mill, he intends to burn it down, not realizing that there are still people there, including his girlfriend. Nobody survived the fire and the mill closed, leaving the ghosts of the victims behind. Fast forward to 1968, Huckster, Illinois. A group of teens double dares each other to enter the mill, knowing that people have gone in there and have never been seen again. Now they face the wrath of the mill. To get out, they must complete a set of tasks or forever disappear through the looking glass.

The Mill by Ron Stelle is something very different, not your average supernatural story. There are lots of twists, so this is one story where you cannot let your attention lapse for even a second. This is a story of many angles – old romance, the sheer horror of the fire, the time continuum, altered realities, and oh, so much more. And tossed in, just to throw you completely off course, we have the humor. In places, this is a laugh out loud book; in others, it’s a hide your face and peek over your fingertips book. The characters are interesting, well-developed and just a little on the quirky side and, to be honest, although I struggled a little with some of the lingo (before my time!), I couldn’t put it down. Thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommended.
