DM Wolfenden’s Wedding Dress For Sale, Never Worn is a short story that packs a lot of punch in its few pages. The narrative style brings you right into the mix, making you feel as if everything is happening to you. The story is told so perfectly that emotions well up within you, from sadness, to anger, to happiness. Although there isn’t a ton of description, one of the more descriptive moments sounded like free verse poetry to my ears and I could imagine it without putting my brain out too much. “Chewed-up dart board on the wall.” There is a beautiful alliterative quality to the entire story itself which I feel is hard to find among most short stories.
Wedding Dress For Sale, Never Worn by DM Wolfenden took a piece of my heart away with it when it ended. A story beginning with the kind of grief most of us will one day experience, or have already experienced, followed by the worst sort of betrayal one would have to suffer through. There is a plethora of emotions that the reader goes through, and Wolfenden lets the reader experience it so effortlessly and believably. She has mastered the short story in all possible aspects. If you or a friend have a mind for stories that capture the heart and whisk you away from the troubles of your day, DM Wolfenden’s Wedding Dress For Sale, Never Worn will do just that and then some, that I can assure you.
