Elizabeth Ly's 101 Animal Facts for Kids: Bears of the World is a valuable addition to every school library and the shelves of nature-loving children from four years and up. The book starts with general facts about bears. The first section reveals how many species of bears exist, where they live, what they eat, how they communicate with or recognize each other, the anatomical peculiarities of different species, and many other fun facts. Then, Elizabeth introduces every bear species, from the well-known brown and polar bears and the iconic giant panda to the less-known sun, sloth, and spectacle bears, including the American and Asiatic black bears. The final part touches on our efforts to preserve bears in the wild. The author adds a list of the organizations that fight for bears' survival.

Elizabeth Ly's 101 Animal Facts for Kids: Bears of the World is an informative guide through the world of bears. The carefully thought-out structure helps young readers easily navigate the unfamiliar territory of bears' habitats, external characteristics, and habits, with high-quality photographs of the animals and detailed charts of their areas of distribution. The author shares facts about bears that will surprise even adult readers. For example, not all species hibernate, and bears of one particular species can purr! The author uses plain language to convey knowledge about bears more effectively. The author exposes the environmental factors that put bears and the survival of their species in danger. Elizabeth encourages children to learn more about bears because proper education is crucial for their successful conservation. Elizabeth Ly's 101 Animal Facts for Kids: Bears of the World is a children's book that explores and introduces young readers to the world of bears. Comprising 101 educational, interesting, and fun facts about bears around the world, from ones found in Asia, like pandas or Asian black bears to polar bears at the North Pole, together with amazing pictures, the author manages to capture the essence of each one of the species while transforming the experience for young readers into a fascinating journey around the world. The book also shows how climate change and human actions have affected and put each bear species and their habitat in danger. The book also shows how we can help with conservation and protection.

One of the aspects that I liked about 101 Animal Facts for Kids: Bears of the World by Elizabeth Ly is how the author managed to balance the right amount of information and images so that the narrative doesn’t get too heavy and difficult for children to understand, while at the same time capturing all the essential information. For example, each time the author presents a fact about bears, like “Fact 40” about the power of digging brown bears, an image concerning that topic is shown, like a close-up picture of their claws or the bear surprised in the act of digging, making the perception and the assimilation of information very easy. I also liked how, throughout the book, the author raises awareness of bear protection and conservation.
