Having a bad hair day? Perhaps a day in the kitchen planning a dinner party will soothe the frizzes. So, “whip out your whisk, snatch up your spoon, and prepare your palate.” And, while you’re working your way through another great set of new recipes, sit down and enjoy the mysteries that inspired them. How about some haroset, a sweet, dark-colored paste made from fruits and nuts, served with the Passover Seder as it symbolizes the color and texture of the mortar the Israelites used when they were enslaved in ancient Egypt. This is one of the Jewish dishes amateur sleuth Marla Shore must make for the traditional Passover feast in Nancy J. Cohen’s Highlights to Heaven: Bad Hair Day Mysteries #5. The excerpt, which discusses haroset and other Passover foods, will entice the reader to prepare some haroset as well as pick up a copy of the book; eat and read, two marvelous pleasures.
