A Bedtime Story written by Denise Gassner and illustrated by Travis North is a children's picture book about bedtime rituals. The story follows a child's sleep routine from infancy to childhood. Fathers and mothers reassure their children every night that they are safe and that their parents will be there for them. Parents can hum or sing to their infants to help them go to sleep. As children grow up, they begin to take part in more activities and have fun. They also start to communicate and can be more specific about what they want during the night, for example, water or a hug. When they are older still, they can get scared and may need a parent's presence and reassurance concerning their safety. The last section of the book is a selection of cute monsters with different personalities that you can introduce to your children as friends.

A Bedtime Story is a calming book and I felt at peace when reading it. Denise Gassner's words are soothing and perfect for bedtime. The book can also be used as an instruction manual for first-time parents regarding what to expect and do at bedtime. Travis North has done a great job with the illustrations. Using a dark color theme for the book is an inspiring move because it is perfect for calming children down and lulling them to sleep. I believe bright colors make children too excited and ready for play. Racially diverse families are featured, which I found unusual, and will cater to a broader audience. I recommend this book to parents and guardians who need a gentle bedtime storybook for their children.
