A Crippling Fear is a dark comedy thriller by Ashton Rogers. Bryan Hatcher just can't get a break. Not only did his girlfriend break up with him on his birthday, but he got fired from his job by his best friend, David, and was forced to quit his studies. After a string of failed job interviews, Bryan eventually lands a job as a private nurse to a former baseball player named Trevor Manning, who had suffered a terrible spinal injury, rendering him disabled, both mentally and physically. Unbeknownst to his new employer, Deborah Manning, however, Bryan isn't a licensed nurse. Bryan's situation becomes complicated when he develops feelings for Deborah. To make things worse, he realizes that Trevor may not be who he thought he was. Soon, Bryan finds himself at a crossroads with the law. Can he get his life back on track?
A cascading mix of dry humor, witty dialogue, and unexpected twists and turns make A Crippling Fear a delicious treat you don't want to put down. Author Ashton Rogers fills the narrative with a combination of colorful characters and an unpredictable plot that draws you in from the first page and keeps your eyes glued to the story until the end. Bryan is your everyday guy just looking to get by. But he has a knack for finding himself in trouble, often ending up in situations that make for some truly hilarious scenes for the reader. I particularly enjoyed his dynamic with Trevor. If you're a fan of dark humor, do not miss A Crippling Fear.
