With perfect grades, many extracurricular activities, and a polished resume, Sabrina has always been a model student. Yet, the arrival of a deferral letter shatters her lifelong dreams of attending Harvard. Her situation gets even more complicated when she is associated with a prank gone awry. When @Revenge, the anonymous prankster of Milford High, who ensures every misbehaving or cheating student faces a public humiliation, seriously injures a star athlete, Sabrina realizes that all the evidence points toward her. She must identify the face behind the anonymous profile to prove her innocence. Will she be able to unearth @Revenge’s identity before she becomes a target? Find out in A Lie for A Lie, a YA thriller by Jane Buckingham.

This breathtaking ride of a book kept me so engrossed that I finished it in a single sitting. From the get-go, Jane Buckingham created palpable tension that set the tone for the rest of the book. I loved how she unfolded the teenage drama and shed light on the social hierarchy of the high school, with the so-called popular kids looking down upon others. Buckingham showed how an unrelenting pursuit of one’s ambition could cause as much damage as unrequited love and heartbreak. Her deft storytelling created a convoluted path of friendship, betrayal, and blackmail. As the tortuous scheme by an anonymous evil genius started to haunt Sabrina, I shared her anxiety and dilemma. My suspicions grew with each page turned, landing on a new target with every unexpected twist until the final reveal left me speechless. I loved how The author highlighted Sabrina’s tenacity and yet did not hesitate to shed light on the downsides of her single-minded, intense aspirations. A Lie for A Lie is a must-read for those who enjoyed the One of Us is Lying series.
