A Love Story: How the Heartland Fell in Love With a 400-Year-Old French Comedic Playwright by Chantal M. Roberts is an inspiring story. It’s about the struggles and triumphs of the Kansas City artists, actors, and businesses who worked tirelessly to bring Molière's works to life. French playwright Molière was born on 15 January 1622. Kansas City became a French settlement two hundred years later, and Missouri became a state. Celebrations of the 400th birthday and the 200th anniversary came together in the 2021/22 theater season and in city-wide arts events called KC Molière: 400 in 2022. Helmed by Felicia Londré, Ph.D., this is the story of how the mission to celebrate Molière's 400th birthday became a reality.

Chantal M. Roberts’ A Love Story is a tribute to the power of art and community and a celebration of the enduring legacy of one of the greatest comedic playwrights of all time. Roberts' writing style is engaging and emotive as she recounts the untimely death of two of the project's supporters, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact that many Americans had not heard of Molière. Despite these obstacles, the community persevered and earned international recognition for celebrating Molière's immortal comedy and connection to Kansas City's French heritage. It is well-researched and provides historical context and insights into the life and works of Molière. It is a must-read for anyone who loves theater, history, and the indomitable human spirit.
