A Picture of Her: If You Stay Forever by Ellie Sabine tells the story of Liv, who had been sober and clean for two years and was no longer the subject of rumors on the island. Liv was happily married to Thomas, and she believed that it would be forever. With Liv and Thomas’s first anniversary coming up, Thomas suggested that they start a family. Liv’s world was turned upside down because babies were never part of her plan. Liv was adopted and felt that she could never be a stable and reliable mother. Della, Liv's adoptive mother, was adjusting to life without her late husband Carson. Della found an envelope in the attic with news articles about Liv’s biological parents, and Carson began contacting Della from the grave. Della desperately wanted to know what happened on the day she and Carson first held Liv.

A Picture of Her by Ellie Sabine is intriguing and exciting. It had my attention from the first page. There was a comprehensive description of the events, and I could follow the action with ease. I could not turn the pages fast enough to know what would happen next. The characters were authentic and relatable. They were introduced one at a time, and I got to know them. The role players had backstories, and they all tied together in the end. My favorites were Liv and Thomas. She was complicated but smart and talented. Thomas was a devoted husband and looked after Liv very well. At times Thomas was filled with anger but soon returned to being his normal friendly self. The story was well-written with a fitting ending.
