A Special Kind of Twisted by Onyinyechi Anne Udoh is just exactly that. The story follows three people who are stuck in a circle that ends with the three of them, no matter how you look at it. Calling it just a love triangle would not be enough. There is a lot more to it; this is a story of three people who discover themselves by trying to help others. It is poignant and very beautiful.

Zara Harrison always knew how she would end. This is because she planned it herself. She has everything prepared; she is just waiting for the right time. All her ducks are in a row, prepared and ready for it all to end. But David is always there, trying to save her. David himself has no idea why he wants to help Zara. She is toxic, the relationship will not end well, and he knows that. But he cannot stop himself from helping her. But for the life of him, he cannot stop himself from unraveling her mystery and helping her, and making her see she is worth something. Madison Harrison has one simple need; find peace. But it is not easy. It never is. Sometimes what we need is right in front us and we just choose to not see it. But can this end well?

This is a strong story written with love and detailed attention to the characters. This is something that we are all up against; the will to find peace, the desire to be something more. Very few of us actually have the satisfaction of achieving that. This novel was an amazing piece of art reflecting that even if you are a little crazy, it doesn’t mean that you will not get what you want. If you are twisted enough to try, you will get it.
