Author Biography

Rick Moskovitz is a Harvard educated psychiatrist who taught psychotherapy and spent nearly four decades listening to his patients tell their stories. After leaving practice, he in turn became a storyteller, writing science fiction that explores the psychological consequences of living in a world of expanding possibilities, including even the prospect of evading death. His characters deal with enduring moral and emotional struggles against a backdrop of a near future world that is still dealing with environmental crises as it navigates the intersection of human and artificial intelligence.

A Stand-in for Dying by Rick Moskovitz is the story of what happens when you mess with the natural order of things. A strange woman comes into the lives of Marcus and Ray, two men who were after two very different things. She offered them a weird bargain: when the time came for Ray to die, he would exchange bodies with Marcus. In return, Marcus would get the fortune that he wanted. It felt like the best deal for both of them, but there are consequences to altering the natural order. A pact like this is bound to leave its traces behind and cause trouble. Their decision not only affects them but their families and loved ones. There is an organization after Marcus and his family and Ray is now facing challenges of his own. These men had no idea what it would entail when they made the pact and now they are trying to find a way to just survive. What are they going to do next?

This is an action-packed science fiction novel that took me right into the lives of the characters. The descriptive narrative paints vivid pictures, which makes it easier to imagine everything and feel everything. Although this is science fiction, I connected with the characters very quickly. Both Ray and Marcus have real, human emotions and they react to the issues as normal people would. The story itself is very original, refreshing and entertaining. The author kept the suspense and the momentum going from the very beginning, allowed the reader to get used to the idea and then added twist upon twist to keep them interested and invested in the story. This is a great start to a series that is bound to be a hit! A very impressive and unique concept.
