A Sultan's Folly: Two Mystical Artefacts From the Sub-Continent, A Web of Intrigue, And an Intense Friendship by Phillip Dowsett is an adventure full of mystery, intrigue, and danger. If you like enigmas wrapped in riddles, then keep reading this review, because the author delivers. One of the main characters is a farmer named Vijay, and another is an Australian anthropologist named Jason. Together they try to solve the mystery surrounding two relics Jason has discovered. In their attempt to sort fact from fiction related to the myths attached to the relics, they find that there could be some truth to the rumors. You have a mysterious room, a clandestine love affair, riddles to solve, and deadly traps. But besides all this, the two leads are being watched, but who is doing the watching, and why? You'll be glued to the pages as you try to unravel the plot, and you will be thoroughly entertained along the way.

This brief but powerful novel has a lot going for it: a magnetic plot, interesting characters, and plenty of surprises. You'll get involved in the lives of the characters on the very first page. Besides the story, you have themes of culture and religion and other social issues. If you are unfamiliar with India, here is an entertaining way to learn more about it. The pace is even, the plot is well-built, and the suspense keeps rising. The glossary at the end is especially nice. Fans of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and similar works should enjoy A Sultan's Folly by Phillip Dowsett.
