A Walk in the Woods by Caroline Thornton is a sweet, gentle story about an adventurous bunny. Written in rhyming verse, our bunny ventures out one day to enjoy the world around her. She meets various creatures, bees, birds, and a toad. Each one has something they can do that the bunny is not able to do. Bunny continues walking through the woods using her strong legs and claws. When she senses danger, she uses her loud thumping to warn the rest of the woodland creatures. She is a little sad that she can't do what the other animals can until a wise old owl shares some wisdom with her. Facts about both domestic and wild rabbits and a glossary of words are included.

A Walk in the Woods will transport kids to the forest as they frolic with the bunny. Caroline Thornton's rhymes roll off the tongue, making this a perfect read-aloud story. I can picture kids and parents cuddled up together as they journey along with the bunny. Thornton has included a subtle but important message for kids about appreciating all the amazing things that you can do and not worrying about the things you can't do. The illustrations by Maria Finchenko are muted and soft. They add just the right feel to this woodland story. Bunny looks soft enough to touch. Bunny lovers and nature lovers will enjoy Thornton's fun, tranquil story. A Walk in the Woods brings the natural world to life, while also empowering those that read it.
