Maggie is a very determined woman, but the war has taken its toll on her. After the death of her husband in World War II, she decided to start a new life with her young daughter Bobbie. They set out on the journey from South Dakota to Massachusetts, where she would become a lighthouse keeper in a completely different environment, and be able to form new relationships. A Whisper in the Wind is a realistic novel that shows us how hardship is a part of life. Sometimes we only have to move on, as Maggie was encouraged to do. Barry Kienzle shares a story of friendship and overcoming adversity. Here, we see how a change of environment can generate fear, but it is also the door to new experiences.

Maggie is a character who goes through many difficult moments. She deliberates over the decisions she makes but then acts decisively. Maggie is the personification of self-improvement, which is why I liked the way she was portrayed. Her daughter Bobbie is also a delightful character. Although Bobbie doesn't understand much of what is happening she is always there to support her mother and I found that relationship heartwarming. Maggie finds herself in situations that are hard to explain to her little girl, and those moments give depth to the story. A new co-worker provides a more relaxed aspect to Maggie's life. The narrative is simple and easy to follow. Barry Kienzle shows us that life can be cruel, but even so, love prevails. His characters find tranquility and joy in unexpected ways, which is why A Whisper in the Wind is perfect for lovers of inspirational stories.
