Author Biography

Bastian Gregory was born in 1997 and spent a happy childhood in Singapore, Hong Kong and Denmark. He went on to study creative writing in Winchester, England. He was a wild and free thinker, a kind, gentle son and brother and a good friend to many. Bastian had Asbergers Syndrome and suffered from depression. He left us just after his twenty-third birthday to be, in his own words, reincarnated ‘as a cosmic tree with solar winds and alien doves rushing through my branches'. He leaves behind this book and a collection of poems.

Aboard the Time Line by Bastian Gregory concerns Pete, a young boy who begins his adventures in the classroom. At first, he felt so bored that he believed time was standing still. When he discovered that everything had indeed stopped, he decided to investigate. This was the beginning of a series of fantastic events. He met a dinosaur named Reginald Raptor, and together they embarked on a journey through the Time Line, but with a difference. It was an ancient railway system that made it possible to travel between various locations and across timelines, so they could visit places like ancient Greece or Victorian London. Along the way, Pete made new friends whom he helped as he attempted to resolve his situation. He must also confront the fearsome demons of a world he is just getting to know.

Aboard the Time Line is a fantasy with many historical references. Young readers will be entertained and find the story educational. Bastian Gregory has a creative mind, describing settings in detail as well as all kinds of different creatures. I admired Pete because he represents the virtue of friendship. Even when he is concerned that he can't solve a problem, he does everything he can to help others and never gives up. He moves from one adventure to another, providing fascinating reading. In some parts, the events seem to flow too quickly, but the story remains easy to follow. The book has simple but imaginative illustrations that help you participate in a journey where everything is possible.

Loved this well written book. I loved it, my nephew loved it and my neighbours daughter loved it.
The story is delightful but the hidden messages about how to lower anxiety and cope with what the world throws at you is truly fabulous. A book for all ages. It's cleverly written, uplifting and the illustrations are great too. I would definitely recommend this book and not just for kids either!

I loved Bastians book. What a great and inventive mind to have come up with this story. Its fun, skips along and is refreshingly different. It is a joy, and will engage readers young and old alike. Delightfully illustrated by his sister.

I really enjoyed this book. As relevant for adults as it is for children, it is entertaining, creative and very clever. I loved the idea of the time line winding its way through history, bringing to life long forgotten places and periods along with wonderfully colourful characters - from reluctant heroes to dastardly villains. Underneath all the adventure is a heartwarming tale of true friendship.

Aboard The Timeline is an extremely well written chapter book aimed at 7-12 year olds which captured our attention from the very first page right until the last sentence! Young children will absolutely love the story but I recommend that once they are finished with it, their parents give it a read too! It’s wonderful!

The story is inventive and unique, full of plot twists, and the imagination and creativity of the author is astounding. The imagery is so vivid and you really feel as if you were a character alongside Pete, the ordinary school boy turned adventurer as he journeys through Outermind; a strange and intriguing place.

Pete, a bored schoolboy in his classroom, finds himself suddenly thrown into a place where a less than ordinary train transports the inhabitants to various locations and times in history. But all is not as it seems, and Pete is soon tasked with defeating an unwelcome and ill-intentioned group of demons. Along his way Pete makes some good friends and the group encounter a series of challenges and adventures, which definitely provides a cure to his boredom!

Pete and friends find themselves in Ancient Greece, the middle of the Viking
North sea, Victorian London and more. On one very peculiar train stop, they find nothing makes sense, lettering on signs is jumbled, “roads curve and meander” and it’s impossible to make sense of the place. The troop get to work to fix the mayhem that the demons are causing! And poor Pete wonders if he will ever get home!

We don’t want to give the ending away, but we highly recommend Aboard The Timeline to all little adventurers out there! The story is a definite antidote for anyone feeling bored! Read it and take your mind on an exciting voyage through time and the possibilities of the imagination!

My 10 year old son and I read this together and we both really enjoyed it. Redolent of Salman Rushdie’s Haroun and the Sea of Stories/Luka and the Fire of Life plus Walter Moers’ Captain Bluebear series, it’s a consistently chuckleworthy, highly imaginative, multi-layered yarn that carried us wackily along its narrative tracks from start to finish. There’s a great cast of characters - from a doddery old dinosaur to an ebullient Ancient Greek philosopher (“Philosophocles”) to some suitably dastardly demons - and the illustrations, which perfectly complement the text, are great fun too. Highly recommended!

I am so pleased to have discovered this gem. Pete's journey is an exciting tale for teenagers to enjoy, and adults too, along with the quirky illustrations. It is sensitively writen, yet full of humour. Bastian was a gifted author and anyone who reads his book will not be disappointed.

Read this book out loud with your child/children and go on a memorable journey into Bastian Gregory's magical fantasy universe. A book with many layers- where both children and grown-up's together can experience how to reduced anxiety, mistrust and how to fight evil with hope, light and love. A story which cannot but leave a space in everyone's heart. Highly enjoyable. Highly recommendable!!!!

A delightful adventure through history. The adversaries are so creatively named and are real life "demons" we all battle at some time. This story could be used as a teaching tool for many subjects and is an entertaining and exciting read. The author must have been an "old soul" as the writing is so mature and thoughtful. I have put this on my "must read to grandchildren" shelf.

Everyone knows a child who struggles to focus at school. Maybe you've been that child. I certainly was.

I would have loved it if a talking dinosaur had appeared to rescue me from the boredom and maybe taught me a little history in the process.

A fun, pacy read with vivid and amusing imagery.

I enjoyed reading this story full of creative thinking and clever descriptions along with whimsical characters. A great book to help children appreciate the lessons found through kindness, friendship, hope and self confidence. I am grateful that Bastian shared his gift for writing with us!

This was a fantastic children's book. Got one, and bought a second one to gift afterwards. If your young kids are inquisitive and like adventure and also sometimes get anxious, like the protagonist, then I highly recommend it. It will instill hope and belief in the readers. It is also infused with historical scenarios and knowledge and is very well written (..one may even say it is educational). It is a wonderful and uplifting book.
