All My Jobs by Laura Day is just one of her books featuring Little Lou. This adorable little boy wakes up early to get everything ready before going off to school. He lists the things he needs to get done and checks them off when they are completed. This book teaches children that making a list can help them stay organized so they do not forget something important. Lou shows how responsible he is by getting his own breakfast and dressing himself. When it is time to leave, he is reliable enough to get his backpack and lunch pail for school. These skills seem simple, but this book gives children a positive example of a dependable boy who completes his jobs because they need to get done, and with a smile.

As a Level 2 reader, All My Jobs is at a Kindergarten to First Grade reading level story. The sentences are short and easy to read, with simple vocabulary. The words are on one page while a colorful picture coincides with the story. Laura Day keeps the skills her character has completed at the age level the child reading the book should be at. This book is not only a delight for children to read, but it will make them think about what jobs they have, are they able to complete the jobs Lou can, and develop organizational skills. The cheerful expression on Lou’s face shows children how much joy he had when he could do his jobs before heading off to school. I think children will enjoy any of Lou’s stories written by Laura Day.
