I was born in Jacksonville, FL in 1978 to Chris and Sue Erway. My dad was in the Navy so, growing up I moved around a LOT. From Florida, we headed to California then Mississippi then Washington state. Never staying anywhere for more than a handful of years. Washington is where my dad retired after 20 years of service. After retiring, my parents decided to move to their home state of Michigan.
We arrived in Michigan sometime in 1994 (or thereabouts) and I’ve never left. I graduated from Perry High School and from there went straight to work selling industrial diesel engine parts for 10-years before leaving to open my own business in 2007. It was a tabletop hobby game store called Gamers Sanctuary. After 8 years I sold it to an employee and went back to working in the industrial diesel engine industry.
Throughout my childhood, I always had a vivid imagination and I dreamed up and wrote down all kinds of stories and comic strips. Sadly, after leaving school and joining the workforce, my creative endeavors got put on the back-burner. I was still being flooded with all kinds of stories and ideas but, with no way to realize them at the time, I just kept storing them away in the recesses of my mind.
Then, with my 40th birthday on the horizon, I decided it was time to put all those adventures and stories that I’d been storing away down on paper and turn them loose on the world.

In An Appointment with Fear (Masterminds Incorporated) by Chad Lee Erway, when schoolboy Jesse is torn away from his old life, friends and his beloved detective agency, he believes life cannot get any worse. As he starts his new school in sleepy Wolverton, Jesse soon discovers that the school, teachers and local doctor are not what they seem. Soon, the line between his reality and his vivid nightmares becomes blurred, and uncovers Wolverton's gruesome history. The violence that descends as night falls must be stopped. Jesse is forced to reestablish the detective agency, Masterminds Incorporated, with his new friends and solve the mystery before they themselves are the next victims. The fearless young detectives race to solve the clues hidden inside an ancient book which is the only way they can track down and defeat their formidable enemy.
An Appointment with Fear (Masterminds Incorporated) by Chad Lee Erway has an intriguing and ingenious plot and caught my attention from the first chapter. I was catapulted from line to line as the story is fast paced and full of suspense and tension. The characters are diverse and unique and their dialogue is so authentic for teenagers. The antagonist was subtle in his villainy and this made him more sinister and evil. The author clearly has researched his subject as the detail in the story was superb. I also loved the author's technique of building a scene that was so believable it drew you into the world of Jesse and Masterminds Incorporated. The build up to the ending was explosive and nail-biting, a perfectly crafted piece of writing. I look forward to Book 2, Don’t Hold Your Breath, with eager anticipation.
